Website contact form not working?
Enquiries have gone quiet and you're not sure why. These checks work on most website builders, with the exact spots for Wix and Squarespace.
Find where it breaks
- Send a real test.Use the form on your live site from a phone, with a different email address from the one that receives it.
- Did the form say it was sent?If you see an error or nothing happens, the form itself is broken. If it says thanks, the message is being sent somewhere you're not looking.
- Check your site's stored copies.Wix keeps submissions in your dashboard. On Squarespace, a form with a required email field keeps submissions until you delete them; without one, they're kept for 30 days.
Fix the email side
- Check spam, junk and trash. For Squarespace, add form-submission@squarespace.info to a filter that always accepts it. For Wix, see our Wix form guide.
- Check where the form sends. On Squarespace, the form's email goes to whoever added the form by default, and doesn't update if that person's email changes. Open the form block, and in Storage check the address. On Wix, check the Recipients field in the form's automation.
- Try a different inbox.Point the form at another address you know works. If mail arrives there, the problem is your original inbox or its settings.
Fix the form itself
- Add a storage option. On Squarespace, a form with no storage can't be submitted. Note too that sites on a trial don't get form emails, so connect another storage option.
- Refresh the block.Squarespace suggests removing the form block, adding it again and reconnecting storage. That clears most errors, including “Error communicating with storage services”.
- Ask the platform. If it's still failing, contact your platform's support from a different email address with the time of your test.
